Bishop Sabino Calls for Peaceful Coexistence, Urges Press, Government and Society to Avoid Provocation
Bishop Sabino has called for peaceful coexistence , urging the press , society and government to refrain from provocation and instead embrace dialogue. His remarks came in response to the recent violence that marred the Kawempe byelection.
Speaking during a press review, Bishop Sabino stressed the need for longterm civic education programs to enlighten citizens on their roles and responsibilities in a democratic society. He stressed that peaceful coexistence can only be achieved if different entities ; the society, the media, and the government avoid confrontational approaches and instead engage in constructive dialogue.
Bishop noted; The media, government, and society all have a role to play in fostering harmony. When provocation is used in matters that require dialogue, misunderstandings and violence become inevitable.
He also urged the press to shift its focus towards positive news that promotes mindset change and national development, rather than sensationalism and conflict. He challenged media houses to recognize that stories of progress and development are just as important as controversial headlines.
Bishop noted that for instance there are many developmental initiatives happening within the diocese of Arua that can serve as sources of inspiration for the people of God.
He further called upon the government to invest in comprehensive civic education programs that help citizens understand the political system and make informed choices.
